SUNTOP partnered with the Xiamen Straits Federation for Sustainable Business to host the “Circular Creativity · Green Campus” event at Xiamen Mt. Guanyin Music School in Fujian Province, China.

During the event, students explored China’s first “Recycled Materials Public Welfare Library,” where discarded adidas retail display fixtures were transformed into bookshelves and furniture, offering a tangible example of circular reuse in action.

We were honoured to welcome Mr. Sheng Fulai, former Head of the Economic and Trade Policy Unit at the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP). Using accessible, child-friendly language, he explained global resource consumption challenges and the urgency of advancing a circular economy under UN Sustainable Development Goal 12 (Responsible Consumption and Production). Through relatable examples such as food waste at hotel buffets, he encouraged students to adopt simple sustainable habits, including saving water and participating in “Clean Plate” initiatives. He also highlighted how Chinese companies are contributing to global sustainability goals through local material innovation.

Following this, SUNTOP CEO Mr. Li Hongze introduced the full lifecycle of these materials. By taking back used retail display fixtures, carefully collecting and processing them, SUNTOP transforms waste into functional furniture — giving materials a meaningful second life.

The impact of the event was subtle yet lasting. Students left with the understanding that they are not too small to make a difference, and that repurposing can turn yesterday’s waste into tomorrow’s resource. We believe environmental education can be simple yet powerful — a room of repurposed furniture, a few sincere words, and a child realising that the future begins in their own hands.
